Shreveport’s Rainy Week Survival Guide: Five Ways to Stay Busy Indoors [1]
As finals week gets closer, the forecast is calling for a lot of rain. If you’re anything like me, being stuck inside for too long gets boring fast and makes it hard to stay productive. Instead of letting the weather mess with your mood or motivation, there are actually some easy and fun ways to make the most of being indoors. Here are five things you can do to stay entertained and still feel somewhat productive during the week.
1. Catch Up on a TV Show
One of the easiest ways to pass time is finally watching that show you’ve been putting off. There are so many options now, it’s not hard to find something you’ll like. According to Rotten Tomatoes, some of the top shows this year include Mel Brooks: The 99 Year Old Man! (Season 1), The Pitt (Season 2), Industry (Season 4), Ponies (Season 1), and The Knight of Seven Kingdoms (Season 1). It’s a good way to relax, especially after studying for a while.
2. Learn a New Card Game
Another easy way to stay entertained is learning a new card game. You don’t need much, just a deck of cards and maybe a few people. There are thousands of games out there, so you won’t run out of options. Some of my favorites are Slaps, Spoons, I Doubt It, Speed, and Palace. They’re simple to learn and can turn a boring day into something way more fun.
3. Get Ahead on Studying
Rainy days are honestly a good time to get ahead on schoolwork. Instead of waiting until the last minute, you can use this time to go over notes, make study guides, or finish assignments early. Breaking your studying into shorter chunks helps it not feel overwhelming, and even a couple of hours a day can make a big difference when finals hit.
4. Try a New Hobby or Skill
Being stuck inside can also be a chance to try something new. You could learn how to cook something different, start journaling, or try a creative project. There are so many tutorials online that make it easy to pick up a new skill. It’s a good way to stay busy and actually feel like you accomplished something.
5. Read a Book or Listen to Music
Sometimes you just need to slow down. Reading a book or listening to music is a simple way to relax and reset. Reading can help you focus, and music can make studying or just hanging out feel better. Whether it’s a book you’ve been meaning to finish or a playlist you always go back to, it’s an easy way to make a rainy day feel a little better.
At the end of the day, rainy weather can feel annoying, but it doesn’t have to be boring. If you use the time right, you can still relax, stay productive, and maybe even enjoy being inside for once.
