Shreveport LA – The majority of Louisiana will no longer be required to buy traditional inspection stickers beginning in January 2027.

On Tuesday, June 2nd, Governor Jeff Landry signed House Bil No. 1085. The bill, introduced by Rep. Larry Bagley removes the inspection requirements for most Louisiana vehicles, with certain commercial vehicles and student transport vehicles remaining the only exceptions.

“The inspection sticker is now EXPIRED in Louisiana!” announced Governor Landry in a post on Facebook.

The bill, which was supported by the Governor, passed on Wednesday, May 13th with a 27-7 vote.

“The program gets rid of inspection stickers, probably one of the most hated things that we do,” said Bagley when introducing the bill on the House floor.

Under the new law, Louisiana drivers will be able to purchase a $6 QR code annually instead of participating in the prior inspection sticker process. The QR code substitute will list the vehicle identification number, rather than requiring a formal inspection.

The New Orleans, Kenner, and Westwego areas will not be affected by the bill and will continue with the traditional inspection sticker process.
