A smart Brick? Made by LEGO? [1]

A new technology powered brick that brings sound, motion, and imagination together.

Technology just became even cooler. LEGO Introduced a new technology they came up with called the LEGO Smart Play System, which is a 2x4 “Smart Brick” that can react to how it is used. Their new creation launched March 1,2026. It is made to make building with LEGO bricks more interactive as this helps kids have less screen time because they are doing an interactive activity and not being so focused on a phone.

The Smart Brick contains built-in sensors that allow it to detect movement, color, and orientation. When kids twist, move, or tap the brick, it has this tag inside called the smart tag. According to Lego “The role of the Smart Tag is to tell the Smart Brick how it should play back with you. The Smart Tags tell the Smart Brick what kind of object or creature it should become and what sounds to respond with. Will it be a spaceship? A helicopter? A toilet? If you have the Smart Tags for it, the Smart Brick will have the reactions for it, to help enhance your play.
The Smart Tags help the Smart Brick unlock sounds, mini-games, even secret missions filled with hilarious Easter eggs to keep players guessing! And because there’s no limit to the potential number of Smart Tags, it makes the SMART Play System endlessly re -playable”.

Depending on the tag, the brick can behave like different vehicles, objects, or characters, creating different sound effects and reactions during play. For example, if the brick is used in a spaceship build and tilted upward, it can make flying sounds, or if it suddenly drops, it can create a crashing sound.

The Lego Smart Play System does not require an app or a screen to work. But there is an app for the parents to control the potential of the smart bricks settings and update new features for the bricks. Lego designed the system to focus on kids just building things and using their imagination. The Smart Brick also works with regular Lego bricks, so builders can add the technology to almost any creation.

The brick offers about 40-45 minutes of play on A full charge as the brick is rechargeable. The brick also has as built in sleep mode for when the pieces are inactive

This new creation shows how Lego is keeping up with the everyday world and implementing technology with a toy that's just a traditional building block toy to create a more interactive experience while still encouraging creativity and hands-on play.
