Pilots Men’s Soccer Forces Draw in Opening Game of 2025 Season [1]

On Thursday, Adam Kay led the LSUS men’s soccer team into battle for the first time this season against the Mid-America Christian Evangels. MACU is ranked #17 in the country according to the NAIA coaches' poll, and a great challenge for Kay’s squad to begin the season.

This season has lots of promise for the Pilots after a historic 2024 campaign, where the men’s soccer team won their first national tournament game in program history, coincidentally with a win over Mid-America Christian. This along with the return of eleven Pilots from last season’s team, including all-americans Jack Thomas and Caleb Marchany, hopes are high as ever for Pilots Men’s soccer.

As for last Thursday’s match with MACU, it ended in a 0-0 draw. Though the Pilots were unable to score, the goose egg on the MACU side is a very promising statistic for the Pilots. LSUS attempted five shots on goal, all of which of course were blocked by MACU goalkeeper Alvaro Morera. Defensively, the Pilots dominated. The Evangels were only able to get one shot off. The story of the game was the Pilot's ability to control the pace of play with a top club in the nation.

In a past interview with Kay, He told me he purposefully schedules top teams early in the season, so the team knows their strengths and weaknesses. It is a great way to find out what kind of team they have and how much work needs to be done to be ready to beat these teams in the postseason.

In a postgame interview, Kay stated positives and negatives. He thought the defense was one positive as it has been discussed here. “The way that we were kind of structured and disciplined was a lot of what we worked on so far this year”. Kay did not think the team’s energy was the best and was disappointed in the fact that they weren’t “firing on all cylinders”. All things considered, Kay says they will take the positives and move forward to a big-time match in Mississippi on Tuesday against William Carey, the third ranked team in the country.
