In June, downtown Shreveport once again played host to Louisiana’s premier social and digital marketing conference, SocialCon. Content creators and other digital professionals mingled and networked with small business owners and vendors as attendees were celebrated for their accomplishments and aspiring professionals were educated on how to replicate their success.

“This means everything for creators, marketing professionals, or artists,” said Kalli Combs, founder of Social Pal Kal, a social media strategy agency. Combs is also creator of SocialCon, which she began in 2025. “Being able to be around like-minded people that are in the same fight that you are, it’s a really nice thing.”

The convention included several demonstrations from social media professionals, as well as panels where the audience could ask questions and get advice regarding their own marketing and social media endeavors. Entertainers in the form of a DJ and multiple professional comedians kept the atmosphere light and engaging. Local vendors were set up at tables around the room, taking the opportunity to advertise and sell their wares and services.

According to Combs, the experience of having done the convention once made the event even smoother and more successful the second time.

“This year, we were able to understand the hurdles and the twists a little bit better,” she said. “It made planning a lot easier, and I have a team that’s been able to help me ... that’s helped a lot.”

The convention also handed out multiple awards to creators and marketers, acknowledging their contributions to the industry. The ultimate award, Social Media Creator of the Year, was a surprise award given to the event host himself, comedian Joshua Hoover. The coming together of so many professionals to appreciate the accomplishments of their peers was exactly what Combs said she created the convention for. That sense of community is what drives her to keep the event going.

“Hearing from everybody how much they enjoy it, it really energizes. It makes me want to continue on,” she said.
