Bossier Arts Council is Bringing Art to the Sidewalks

"Sidewalk Saturday" by BAC

In June, the Bossier Arts Council brought art to the streets with Sidewalk Saturdays, an outdoor art sale featuring local creators and artists. While the event only ran for two weekends in June, it is returning in July on the 4th and 18th. Visitors can buy original artwork and handmade goods, and the simple, outdoor setting gives artists and those who admire their work a chance to meet face-to-face.

"Sidewalk Saturdays are not meant to be a large, market-style experience. No tents and a max of six vendors each weekend, vendors have a more accessible opportunity to speak directly with visitors while showcasing their wares," said the BAC in an official statement.

Those who want to be featured creatives in the July event are currently able to apply. The Bossier Arts Council is accepting vendor applications for only $35 per event, with tables provided for setup. With the limit of six artists featured each weekend, Sidewalk Saturdays is purposefully curated and community-based.

With the next event being held on July 4th, the BAC is expecting an even better turnout and is prepared with art and entertainment for the whole family.

"We're looking forward to our July 4th weekend as the Louisiana Boardwalk will be packed full with celebrations and activities! We'll have a full Sidewalk Saturday lineup ready to greet visitors as well as free arts & craft activities inside and, of course, our Pocket Size Gallery Show!"

Sidewalk Saturdays are one of many events hosted by the BAC in their effort to support local artists. Since its founding in 1980, the organization has been deeply involved in the creative aspects of the community, hosting events and galleries, collaborating with local institutions and schools, and giving area artists and performers the opportunity to connect with one another and market their creations. According to their website, local artists remain the centerpoint of their mission.

"While we may have a range of goals, our primary focus is typically to provide resources and opportunities for local artists and performers to showcase their work, connect with audiences, and build their career," reads a statement on the website.
