You’ve heard it plenty over the past year, the Pilots sweep again. This one could be seen as a “get right” series. LSUS went into the weekend coming off a rough trip to Sterlington where they went 2-2 at the Cajun Collision.
Brock Lucas, who had been struggling to start the season, had his best game as a Pilot. Neffendorf acknowledged his struggles in a conversation hours before this series began. Neffendorf explained Lucas’s journey through the past year, which involved injury and pitching a solid number of innings between the conclusion of last season and the start of this season. Neffendorf believes this has led to a “dead phase” for Lucas that he seemed to bust out of on Saturday against ACU
Lucas has had an interesting journey through college. Injuries and a waiver problem at Western Kentucky led to just 16 innings pitched between 2021 and 2025. In his fifth year of college, Lucas is looking for his first full season. Against ACU, he pitched six innings of no-hit baseball, tallying eleven strikeouts and walking two. Possibly the best outing of his collegiate career.
The offense waited until the third inning to get going with an RBI single from Red River Athletic Conference player of the week Carlos Sanchez. LSUS got a couple more in the third when Evan Gant bunted a run home, and Nazir Mendez recorded a sacrifice fly. Sanchez took one the other way in the fifth for his second homer in as many games. The Pilots ended up winning by a score of 7-1. Just what they needed as they head into conference play next weekend.
